A GP Partner is a self-employed GP who, alongside other GPs is responsible for running their own Practice. Besides providing services and managing patients, GP partners also manage the practice staff, the finances and the administrative work associated with running the practice. GP partners are not only healthcare professionals but also business owners.

Salaried GPs

A GP is a highly skilled doctor who supports patients throughout their lives. They assess, diagnose and treat all common medical conditions. A GP can help you to manage your health and prevent illness. This includes child health, mental health, adult medicine, the diagnosis and management of acute medical and surgical problems and the management of long term health conditions. Salaried GP are employed by the Practice and receive a salary for a contracted number of hours worked.

Doctor In Training

Doctors In Training (Used to be called Registrars) have completed 5 years at University to gain a medical degree. Following this, they spent 2 years as a Junior Hospital Doctor in their "foundation years". Once this has been completed, they spend an additional 3 years of Specialist GP training where they are supervised by a trainer. The Doctors In Training are known as ST1, ST2, or ST3, the numbers indicate which year of their specialist training they are in. Once they have completed the 3 years Specialty Training, they are able to become an independent GP in the UK.

Practice Managers

The Practice Manager manages the business aspects of Heaton Road Surgery. In addition to this, they also oversee the management of the clinical staff workforce. The Assistant Practice Manager manages the patient experience aspects of Heaton Road Surgery. They also oversee the management of the clerical staff workforce.

Pharmacists

Pharmacists are qualified healthcare professionals trained over 5 years to become specialists in medicines and how they work. Our Pharmacists have also completed further training to qualify as a prescriber. The clinical pharmacists role includes medication reviews for long term health conditions such as asthma, COPD, diabetes and CHD.

Social Prescribing Link Worker

The Social Prescribing Link Worker (SPLW) receives referrals from the practice team to work with all patients who require support outside of medical needs. The link worker role includes linking patients to community activities, supporting them to access benefits and housing aid and help to combat loneliness and isolation. If you feel you need help in any of these or, another other aspects of your life, speak to your GP next time you see them , or you can ask for a referral through the reception team.
