NHS Health Check

What is an NHS Health Check:

It is a regular health check for people aged 40 to 74 who don’t already have a long-term illness.

The check helps find early signs of health problems like stroke, kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, or dementia.

As we get older, these problems can happen more. The check can help spot things that might cause these problems so you can make simple changes to stay healthier.

What happens during the appointment:

The appointment lasts about 20 minutes. A nurse or healthcare assistant will ask you easy questions about your lifestyle, like what you eat, if you smoke or drink, and how much you exercise. They will also measure your height, weight, and blood pressure.

After the check, you can talk with the nurse or healthcare assistant about changes you might want to make to help stay healthy. Small changes can make a big difference!

How do I arrange one:

You will usually get a letter inviting you for an NHS Health Check when you turn 40, and then every five years after that. You can also call the surgery to book an appointment.
