Same day help for your poorly child

If your child has become unwell in the last few days and you would like urgent advice then please contact the surgery and we will arrange for a clinician to speak to you and if necessary to see your child, today – this could save you an unnecessary trip to A+E or a Walk-in Centre. Can we also make you aware of the Little Orange Book, which provides expert help for parents and carers on how to manage common problems in babies and small children – ask your GP for a copy, or view it online here

The time has finally come for me to retire from general practice. I have been at the practice for 37 years and yet the time has passed so quickly.

I will be retiring from medical practice at the end of May 2018 with many mixed emotions. I would like to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to have had such a wonderful career and to have shared so many of your lives, in both good and difficult times.

It has been a great privilege to be a doctor in Heaton Road Surgery and I will undoubtedly miss many aspects of day-to-day clinical practice but the time has come to move on.

I leave the practice in excellent hands. Many of you will know all the doctors here and I am pleased to let you know that we have already recruited a replacement to share what is an ever-increasing workload.

With many, many thanks to all of you who have been my patients.

GP Training

Heaton Road Surgery is a ‘training practice’. This means that young doctors wanting to enter general practice spend six months at a time with us as part of their training. As a training practice, your medical records may be used for educational purposes, but your confidentiality is ensured at all times.

A ‘healthier lifestyle’ helps you feel better:

  • Stop smoking
  • Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veg
  • Exercise regularly
  • Keep alcohol intake within recommended limits

Patient Choice Scheme for Out of Area Registrations

We are not participating in the Patient Choice Scheme for Out of Area Registrations. This is for a number of reasons, the most important of which is that we have not yet been informed of what the urgent care arrangements will be for out of area patients who are unable to attend the surgery. We believe that this may impact on patient safety so we will continue to request that patients moving out of our practice area reregister with a new practice.

Online Patient Access

You can book appointments to see your doctor, place orders for repeat prescriptions and also view a summary of your medical records online.

To do this you need to register at Reception please see our opening times. When you register , we’ll give you all the information you need to get going.
